20th Anniversary Nirvana

The 20th anniversary of Nivana's first album bleach this year and many people are remembering the greatness and talent that was Nirvana and Kurt Cobain. Why was it that the trio became so successful and what did they want from it all, did they want the fame they recieved from Nevermind.

The band was formed in Washington and Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic were in the band right from the start. Nirvana would have a long lasting problem with the drummers going through many with Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters) being the longest lasting one from 1990 until the bands demise.

The first song that was released under the official name Nirvana was Love Buzz in 1988 and the first album Bleach was not released until the following year which was highly influenced by The Melvins. Cobain changed his writing style from the anger of bleach to the commercial success that was Nevermind because he was happier with his life.

Cobain never really wanted any of the fame that he received and he always complained that he had to play for the people that had bullied him at school and that these people were two faced.

Many years have passed since Kurt Cobain's death yet the band still remain as poular as they were back in the early 90's and they have been voted one of the best bands of all time.

An Introduction to the Didgeridoo

Playing a didgeridoo is different to other wind instruments. You breathe down the tube while your lips remain loose making a vibration that will echo as it travels down the tube. The Beatles Remastered CDs Out On 9/9/9

On 9/9/9 remastered versions of The Beatles 13 official studio albums will finally be released after over 20 years of waiting. The 1980s CD versions are thought by most to be a very poor example of mastering for CD which is a big reason why people have been wanting new better versions for so long.

But the excitement from 9/9/9 doesn’t just come from the fact that the albums are being remastered for the first time since their original release on CD, it also comes from the mono box set that is being released on that day. This is the first time that the original mono mixes of The Beatles albums (up through 1968 which is when they stopped doing mono mixes) are going to be available on CD.

So why should we care about such an outdated way of listening to music here in the 21st century? Mono was being phased out in the 1960s, why should we listen to mono mixes today? Backup Singing, Be A Shadow and Shine

If you want to be center stage and star of the show, you cannot sing backup. The meaning of singing backup is to sing behind someone, not compete with them. If you can control your need to be the center of attention, you can learn backup singing.

As the singer goes, so must you. Blend to their phrasing. If you want to blend in the proper way, start your line just after the singer starts theirs. Sometimes you are not sure of how loud the singer will be so start quietly and gradually come up to the proper level after the melody develops. Be very aware of consonants at the beginning of a melody and try to not emphasize them. If you pronounce a consonant too hard and it is slightly off from the main singers phrase, it will be very noticeable and unpleasant.

The end of melodies are just as vital as the beginning. If you gradually ease off your melody as the singer does the same, you will not end after they do and cause much embarrassment to yourself and the band as a whole. So learn to blend melodies, listen and watch the main singer and you can be a backup singer every band wants to hire.

“Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’” – This tune is one of four songs on Thriller that “The King of Pop” Michael Jackson got songwriting credits for. Michael Jackson wasn’t only a great singer & dancer, he was also a excellent songwriter.

“Baby Be Mine” – To get an idea of how great this album is consider this: “Baby Be Mine” is one of only two songs that wasn’t a hit single. This is a pretty catchy song to be one of just two tunes not released as a single.

“The Girl Is Mine” – The lyrics are cheesy as hell but I think that’s part of the song’s charm. This is a tune I’ve started to enjoy more and more over time. The interaction between MJ & Beatles legend Paul McCartney is pretty darn sweet. This is another one of the Jackson penned songs.

“Thriller” – Too many people think just about the groundbreaking music video and forget about the song itself. It’s a brilliant song and MJ’s incredible vocals really put it over the top. I don’t think any other artist could have really made this song work.

“Beat It” – Eddie Van Halen features on this “rock” song. Jackson doesn’t get enough credit for stuff like this. Jackson wrote “Beat It.”

“Billie Jean” – The most perfect example of a Michael Jackson song. If you are ever questioning MJ’s talent remember that he wrote and performed this song.

“Human Nature” – This is one of the Thriller songs I enjoy most lately because it hasn’t been played to death like many of the others on Thriller. It’s a beautiful song.

“P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)” – I’m not sure any song makes me want to dance more than “PYT.” Much like the beautiful “Human Nature,” this tune is among my favorite songs on Thriller because it hasn’t been included in so many greatest hits albums.

“The Lady In My Life” – The least good song on the album? Most likely. Still pretty darn good? Yes.
